Sabah spoil Pahang's home party

IT was a successful outing for the visitors on the first match day of the 2018 Malaysia Cup with Sabah grabbing the attention after a creditable 1-1 draw away to Pahang.

The Rhinos came from behind to earn one point at Darul Makmur Stadium after Hector Ramos' goal just after the half time was enough to cancel out Austin Amutu's opening goal for the home side.

Sabah are the lowest ranked team to qualify for the competition and the result is a big setback for Group D favourites, Pahang.

In the other match in the group, PKNP FC claimed a vital away win with an inspired 3-0 win over a hapless Selangor side.

In their return to the familiar settings of Shah Alam Stadium, the Red Giants found themselves starting the Malaysia Cup campaign on the wrong foot.

Goals from Hafiz Ramdan (22'), Fandi Ahmad (32') and Ritus Kraujklis (61') put the Juggernauts top of Group D after the first set of matches.

Over in Group A, Terengganu FC hammered Kuala Lumpur 5-1 as the City boys had no answer to the firepower of Irfan Bakti's men at KLFA Stadium in Cheras.

Tchetche Kipre opened the scoring in the 25th minute before Lee Tuck doubled the lead, a minute before half time.

Things would get worse for KL after the break as Kipre grabbed his second in the 55th minute before Igor Zonjic nodded in the fourth in the 63rd minute.

Kipre completed his hattrick in the 72nd minute with Zaquan Adha's effort in the 85th minute nothing more than a consolation goal.

Meanwhile in Ipoh, Perak had to be content with 0-0 home draw against Premier League side, Felcra FC.

Despite having the lion's share of the possession, Perak were profligate in front of goal, Jad Noureddine and Brendan Gan failing to capitalise on good goal scoring chances.

The result meant that Terengganu lead Group A with maximum points while Perak and Felcra follow closely behind with a solitary point each.
