MIFA hope to continue their impressive Malaysia Cup run

SEREMBAN: Mifa are on the brink of creating history in their first-ever Malaysia Cup appearance.

The Premier League side have picked up two wins in as many matches in Group C with victories over former AFC Cup winners Johor Darul Ta’zim (2-1) and Kelantan (2-0), and they hope to continue their winning ways when they take on Kedah away on Saturday.

Mifa captain S. Subramaniam admitted that the club are surprised with their 100 per cent record in the competition.

“We did not expect wins over Super League champions JDT and Kelantan. We are an inexperienced team with many newcomers, and every win in this competition is a bonus. We hope the good run will motivate us to go far in the Malaysia Cup,” said the former national player.

“The secret behind our success is hard work. We work very hard in matches and I believe we have been rewarded accordingly. We are a small club and this is a great run for us.”

Mifa, who missed out on a Super League promotion spot by finishing third in the recent Premier League season, lead Group C with six points, followed by JDT (three), Kelantan (one) and Kedah (one).

Subramaniam, however, said Mifa need to work harder in order to achieve their quarter-final target.

“It is still a tough journey for us despite earning six points. We have tough matches to prepare for and I hope we will remain consistent,” said the centre-back.

“The focus now is on the match against Kedah. The boys are working on tactics under the supervision of coach K. Devan.

“Kedah are a good team and we need to minimise mistakes in order to gain a favourable result at the Darulaman Stadium (in Alor Star),” Subramaniam added.
