Melaka United will pay players' salaries

AYER KEROH: The issue of salary arrears owed to Melaka United players is expected to be resolved within the near future, said Melaka chief minister Adly Zahari.

Adly, who is also Melaka United FA (MUSA) president, said that the payment of salary arrears for the month of July was made recently, while August and September salaries are expected to be paid out in the near future.

"We are confident that by next month (November) the issue of salary arrears owed to Melaka United players will be resolved.

"We want to ensure that the team remain competitive in competing in the Super League next season,” he said during a press conference after the state government Exco meeting that was held here earlier today (Thursday).

When asked on the possibility that Melaka United might not engage the services of a foreign coach for next season’s Super League campaign, Adly responded that the team’s financial standing must be the priority without compromising in terms of developing the sport in the future.

"We need to consider all sorts of factors, including retaining the services of foreign imports to ensure that Melaka United can continue to mount a serious challenge in the Super League.

"At the same time, we are also committed in focusing on development at grassroots level from next year onwards,” stressed Adly.
