Ex-Sabah coach Ken Shellito passes away

KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah coach Ken Shellito passed away at 7.13am today. He was 78.

He leaves behind his wife, Jeany Shellito and two daughters.

Jeany said Shellito was hospitalised at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here for lung infection and kidney complications.

He was discharged on Tuesday and had returned to his residence at Kampung Minintod, Inanam.

"The paramedic confirmed he passed away at 7.13am. He will be buried on Saturday," said Jeany.

Shellito played for Premier League side Chelsea and England in the 1960s.

It is understood that Shellito has been having health problems since May and was hospitalised on Oct 15.

A Malaysia PR holder, Shellito managed Chelsea and Cambridge United before he moved to Malaysia and coached Kuala Lumpur, Perak and Sabah.

He is also remembered for setting up a football academy for Chelsea.

The former defender also served as Selangor's coaching director and also worked for the Asian Football Confederation as a match analyst.

He had also setup the Ken Shellito Football Academy in Penampang.
