MFL convey condolences, hope all amateur league teams prioritise safety

KUALA LUMPUR: The governing body of local football leagues, Malaysia Football League (MFL), hope that all parties, especially organisers of amateur leagues, prioritise on safety to all competing teams across the country.

This follows the tragic death of an amateur footballer, Khairul Anuar Hasyim who drowned at Eco Ardence in Setia Alam earlier today (Wednesday).

The sad news struck a chord with MFL chief executive officer, Kevin Ramalingam, who came forward to convey his condolences and express his sadness over the passing of the Sarban FC player. Sarban FC played in the Selangor Champions League (SCL) last year.

“I am very sad and shocked to receive such tragic news that Khairul was found drowned early this morning (Wednesday).

“My deepest condolences and unreserved sympathies go out to Khairul’s bereaved family.

“I hope that each and every player, regardless of sport, will be careful and cautious especially when it comes to safety in the future,” stressed Kevin.

In the tragic incident that occurred around 10pm last night (Tuesday), the 26-year-old player was reported to have fallen into the lake at Eco Ardence after attempting to retrieve the ball.

Khairul’s body was found by Bomba personnel at around 2.35am.
