Safee: 'More players will leave Perlis'

KUALA LUMPUR: The question now is who is next to leave beleaguered Perlis after this, and will the players be able to get their salaries after not being paid for the past two months?

The Northern Lions squad will most likely be facing an exodus of players, as a few are expected to up and leave because of the salary arrears issue.

Veteran forward Safee Sali, who was confirmed to have left the team yesterday (Monday), did not discount the fact that a few other players will follow suit after being left frustrated and disappointed by the team’s management who failed to settle salary arrears owed to them.

“I feel that a few other players could be leaving the team as well because they have families to support and lives to lead.

“They too have been thinking long and hard apart from waiting for two months to get paid what is owed to them. So for sure any decision that they make will be for the sake of the well-being of their families,” he said when met after training at the University Malaya training field yesterday.

Earlier, The Perlis FA (PFA) stressed that the team will not fall apart even if many of the players decide to leave before the first transfer window closes tomorrow (Wednesday).

PFA president, Datuk Ahmad Amizal Shaifit Ahmad Shafie explained that they will not close the door if at all there are other players who decide to leave the team after having to endure being owed salary arrears for the past two months.

Ahmad Amizal said that PFA are ready to face the issue and have plans in the pipeline to ensure that the Northern Lions squad are able to continue to compete in the Premier League as usual.

“We have plans in place to ensure that our team can continue to compete, and among the plans that we have in mind is roping in a few youth squad players for the senior squad,” he said.
