Hodak to face FAM's wrath over outburst

PETALING JAYA: National youth coach Bojan Hodak could face the music for blaming his team’s poor performance in the Under-18 Sanix Cup in Japan on Malaysia’s development structure.

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) are upset with Bojan and may take disciplinary action against the Croatian, whose side were defeated by Japanese high school teams.

Going by the seriousness of the offence, Hodak, who described Malaysia’s development structure as poor, could be sacked after the tournament.

Malaysia have failed to impress in the Sanix Cup, losing to Aomori Yamada (2-0), Sagan Tosu (5-0) and Ohzu HS (1-0).

FAM deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said the national body are disappointed with Hodak.

“It is an irresponsible statement.

“Our top youth players are products of our football system.

“When he guided the team to last year’s AFF Under-19 title, he did not touch on our youth system.

“However, he blamed our system for the poor show in Japan.

“Hodak should come up with solutions instead of making negative statements to deflect his responsibilities.

“We consider this a serious matter and action will be taken.

“Bojan will be asked to explain the matter,” said Yusoff yesterday.

Hodak was appointed as the national Under-19 coach in mid-2017 and his contract expires in December.

Last year, his team won the AFF Under-19 Championship for the first time following a 4-3 win over Myanmar in Indonesia.
