Selangor seals fourth win in Super League

SHAH ALAM: Selangor moved to third in the Super League following a 2-1 victory over Perak SEDC at the Shah Alam Stadium here on Saturday.

Brazilian midfielder Sandro Mendonca converted from the penalty spot to hand Selangor the lead in the 12th minute before national player Syahmi Safari added a second in the 78th minute. Syahmi outwitted two Perak SEDC defenders and beat goalkeeper Ahmad Asyraaf Omar for the goal.

Things got nervy for Selangor when Fazrul Hazli Kadri netted from outside the penalty box for Perak SEDC in the 85th minute but the former champions held on to seal their fourth win of the season. They have earned 16 points.

However, Selangor will drop to fourth in the league if Kedah, with 15 points, beat Melaka at Hang Jebat Stadium on Sunday.

Selangor will play Kedah in their next league match on Friday.

In Larkin, JDT avenged their FA Cup third round defeat to PKNS by overcoming the Klang Valley side 3-1.

It was the former AFC Cup champions’ 25th straight league win at home since the 2017 season.

In the FA Cup on Tuesday, JDT were edged 1-0 by K. Rajagobal’s side.

JDT, who lead the standings with 26 points, netted through Afiq Fazail (eighth minute), Gonzalo Cabrera (14th) and Safawi Rasid (85th) while

Gabriel Guerra replied for PKNS in the 48th minute.

Pahang maintained second position with 24 points by edging Perak 1-0 in Ipoh courtesy of Herold Goulon’s strike in the 56th minute.
