Nadarajah admits coaches need to upgrade themselves

FORMER international C. Nadarajah agreed that Malaysian coaches need to change their traditional ways to new methods.

Nadarajah, who conducts junior development programmes in Penang, said this in response to FAM’s launch of the Malaysian Football Development plan.

“Malaysia’s coaching contents and modules have to be reviewed to suit new development in international football,” he added.

Nadarajah, a former FAM technical committee member, said for the Football DNA plan to succeed, those involved at all levels need to have a mindset for long-term development.

He said in line with FAM's structure, which is based on the 4-3-3 system, players from 13 years old should be mentally tuned to a similar game of play.

“Training sessions have to be designed with specific individual’s task and team task.”

Nadarajah pointed out that many players start in a particular position but end up playing in a completely different one in their football careers.

He said young players must be drilled with the required mindset and technical knowledge to fit into the football DNA plan.

He said schools, especially primary schools, are the best place for the DNA plan to work effectively. And school teachers also need to be retrained and upgraded with the required technical expertise and latest coaching modules.
