Penang will still pursuecourt action against Fifa

THOUGH their fans are not enthusiastic about the move, the FA of Penang (FAP) will go ahead with court action against Fifa.

FAP president Dr Amar Pritpal Abdullah said while they welcome the opinions of the fans, they will challenge Fifa’s decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Lausanne.

Fifa ordered FAM to dock six points from Penang after their former player, Reinaldo Lobo complained to the world body for non-payment of salaries. FAP eventually paid Lobo, albeit it was past Fifa’s 30-day deadline.

As a result of the Fifa punishment, Penang were denied a place in the Super League despite winning promotion from the Premier League.

Penang Football Club acting president Mohd Azahar Abd Khadir had earlier said the fans felt that Penang won't be able to win their case against Fifa at the world sports court. And that the money from the legal costs of taking on Fifa might as well be put to better use in developing the Penang team.

It will cost FAP at least €11,000 (RM57,400) in legal fees and another €1,500 to file the case.
