Melaka United: Help us, not punish us

Melaka hope the FA of Malaysia (FAM) will not punish them, but instead consider their special payment scheme to settle the salary arrears of their former players, coaches and officials.

The Super League side submitted the required documents to FAM on Friday, which was the deadline to settle outstanding wages.

Melaka together with Police and Kelantan were given until Friday to settle the salary arrears or to come up with a special plan to do so.

Those who fail will be docked three points.

Police are also in big trouble as it is understood that they have not made efforts to settle the salary arrears of their former players and coaches.

If the teams failed to do so again by Feb 28, they will be docked another six points, followed by expulsion from the league if they do not settle their dues by March 30.

FAM will issue a statement on the status of the three teams today.

Melaka United Soccer Association (Musa) secretary-general Farhan Ibrahim hopes the FAM will accept their special payment scheme to settle all debts.

“Our president, Damien Yeo, has taken the initiative to make a deal with those who have not been paid.

“All of them have agreed and have signed (an agreement). We have also submitted the documents to FAM.

“We hope the FA will grant our appeal for an extension to settle all dues.”

Meanwhile, Sarawak United have barred their players, coaches and officials from talking to the media.

“We have decided not to issue statements to the media. We are still in the process of getting the team prepared for the M-League,” said team manager Hamzah Ibrahim.

Among their new recruits are former Selangor captain Amri Yahyah, Fauzi Roslan (Pahang), S. Chanturu (Felda United), Ashri Chuchu (Kuala Lumpur) and S. Veenod (Police).

The team have not been doing well in friendly matches, losing to KL (3-1), Police (5-0) and Perak (4-1).
