Bernhardt's UiTM plan for Seri Iskandar camp

KUALA LUMPUR: Super League debutants UiTM FC plan to have centralised training at the university's Seri Iskandar campus following the government's "go-ahead" for contact sports.

The government announced yesterday that teams can do contact training from July 15 while team competitions can be held from August 15.

UiTM team manager Mustaza Ahmad said his team hope to have seven to 10 days of training before the M-Lleague resumes.

"We need to regain our momentum. We plan to go to UiTM Seri Iskandar to stay and train there."

He said UiTM want to play a couple of friendly matches for their coach, Frank Bernhardt to evaluate the players.

Though there was a suggestion to add new players, Mustaza said Bernhardt wants to stick to the composition of the team after the M-League was suspended on March 16 due to Covid-19.

"We had wanted to take about nine President's Cup players (for the team) but Bernhardt said no and only wanted two because he doesn't want to disrupt the current dynamics of the squad," said Mustaza.

"If it becomes too big of a group, he will have to host more sessions and won't have much focus on individual players."

Unlike the other teams, UiTM's foreign players have stayed in Malaysia during the MCO period but now they want to go home.

"Ousmane Fane begged us to allow him to return to France because he wants to see his wife, so we're sorting that out with immigration," said Mustaza.

"Rabih Ataya also wants to go back to Lebanon to see his family. Both the players' paperwork has been sent to immigration but we would like to have them back before the first week of August should there be a requirement for quarantine."
