The 'Trojan' passes away

Mohd Roslan Buang, a member of the illustrious national football team ranked as among the best in Asia in the 1960s, died on Saturday. He was 81.

Leftback Roslan also played in the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta, helping Malaysia win a bronze medal.

Under coach Choo Seng Quee, Roslan earned Malaysia the 1962 Asiad bronze with teammates Ungku Ismail Abdullah, Sexton Lourdes, Seng Choy, Abdullah Nordin, Boey Cheong Liam, Ahmad Nazari, Kamaruddin Ahmad, Foo Fook Chuan, Edwin Dutton, Inderjit Singh, Richard Choe, Ibrahim Mydin, Abdul Ghani Minhat, Stanley Gabrielle, Arthur Koh, Robert Choe, Mahat Ambu and M. Govindarajoo.

Known as the "Trojan", he was also a Selangor star.

A fast dribbler, Roslan played in the Selangor league as a teenager before he joined the national youth team that emerged second in the Asian Cup in 1959 and 1960.

Playing in the era of greats like Robert Choe, Ng Boon Bee, Abdullah Nordin and Yee Seng Choy, Roslan was made deputy captain of the national team in 1960.
