An opening for Safawi

THIS could just be the opportunity that winger Safawi Rasid has been waiting for in Portugal.

According to a Portuguese media outlet, Safawi has a good chance of making his Portimonense debut today as the two key players for the right wing position are injured.

The two, Fahd Moufi and Emmanuel Hackman, are not in the list for the Primeira Liga match away against Maritimo.

Portimonense coach Paulo Sergio may just want to try out the 23-year-old Malaysian forward.

And Safawi has impressed Sergio with his dedication and hardwork in training.

Don't be surprised if Safawi is penciled in as among Portimonense's first 11 against Maritimo today though he joined the Portuguese team only two weeks ago.

Sergio said the JDT striker, who is on loan to Portimonense, has shown great commitment during team training.

"Safawi has worked hard since his arrival at the club. And he has no fitness problem as he has been through a competitive league in his own country.

"He has managed to adapt himself quickly and he has potential in the squad," said Sergio.

Safawi said he is keeping an open mind on whether he gets to take the field in Madeira.

"It's up to the coach to decide whether I get to play or not. I'm excited and ready to give my best," said Safawi.

With excited Malaysian fans hoping to see Safawi in action today, Astro has decided to broadcast the Portimonense-Maritimo live at 10pm.
