Maloney: No time for AFC under-19 trials

NATIONAL youth coach Brad Maloney has admitted that he does not have the luxury of organising trials ahead of next year's AFC Under-19 Championship.

The 16-team competition will be held in Uzbekistan on March 3-20. The top four teams will qualify for the Under-20 World Cup, also next year, in Indonesia.

Due to time restriction, the Australian coach hopes to call-up players for centralised training in January, but he could face a problem as some clubs may not release them. The M-League starts in February.

"We are now looking at the first week of January and from there we will work all the way up to the tournament in March.

"Most clubs have been supportive in releasing players outside the Fifa window. We will manage accordingly and discuss with the clubs ahead of the January camp."

Maloney said United States-based Wan Kuzri Wan Ahmad Kamal and Belgium-based Luqman Hakim Shamsudin will definitely be considered for the tournament.

"We will have at least 32 players for the next camp. There will be some new faces in the squad.

"Luqman will unlikely attend the camp in January due to his commitments with his Belgian club. "However, we hope Wan Kuzri will be available."

Malaysia are in Group D with Qatar, Tajikistan and Yemen in the Under-19 competition.
