With Covid-19 vaccines expected in Malaysia by next month, the national footballers could be among the early recipients.
It is learnt that Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has been in talks with the FA of Malaysia (FAM) regarding the matter.
The national team could be given priority as they will be involved in the pre-World Cup in March.
It is also learnt that in the interest of fair play, the national sports associations are to suggest the names of athletes who should get the Covid shot first based on their international assignments this year.
Harimau Malaya head coach Tan Cheng Hoe welcomed the proposal to vaccinate the national team as it will provide peace of mind for his players and coaching staff in their pre-World Cup/Asian Cup campaign.
"I think the vaccine will help the team... we're in the World Cup qualifiers and that requires us to travel. It's good if everyone gets it.
"I know people have different views as to who should get it first or there could be concerns over the vaccine's safety.
"Some are excited over it but others are cautious.
"For me, as a coach, whatever is recommended for the team, I will take it into consideration. You never know when during traveling, you could be infected.
"But with the vaccine, we can feel safe."
The 52-year-old coach is also waiting, after more than a year, to gather his men for a quarantine-based 10-day training camp scheduled for Jan 29.
However, it is learnt that FAM are still in talks with the National Sports Council (NSC) over the training venue in Bukit Jalil which needs to be a bio-secure bubble.
But the situation at Bukit Jalil is not condusive for the national football team as the NSC are already housing hundreds of athletes in various sports. It is understood that six athletes are sharing a room there.
On Thursday, Timesport reported that the best solution for Harimau Malaya would be to seek the consent of Johor Darul Ta'zim to use their Padang Seri Gelam training facilities as they have better security. And many national players are from JDT.
