KL City want bragging rights against Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR: When the Super League resumes on July 24 after more than two months, foremost on Kuala Lumpur City coach Bojan Hodak's mind is the Klang Valley derby against Selangor.

His team have been busy despite the pandemic. They have held centralised training camp since June 14, played two friendlies against UiTM (won 4-1 on July 8) and Sarawak United (drew 2-2 on July 12). And one more test match against UiTM this weekend.

During the midseason transfer window, the City Boys have been strengthening their side, recruiting Nigerian-American striker Kyrian Nwabueze and midfielders Malaysian-Australian Ryan Lambert, Perak duo J. Partiban and D. Kenny Palraj.

Hodak, whose team are sequestered at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, said: "We aim to win the game (against Selangor).

"We want the bragging rights in the Klang Valley. I don't see why we can't beat them to be the best team in the Klang Valley," said the Croat. KL drew with Selangor in the first round in May.

"Everything is going fine in the centralised training camp although it's been two months since we had a competitive match.

"We have brought in several new players and they need time to settle down, but the signs are positive. There's competition in the team for the starting XI, and everyone has upped their game."

KL, promoted from the Premier League last year, are currently sixth, a rung below Selangor, in the 12-team Super League.
