Serie A star Forestieri joins JDT

Fernando Forestieri has officially joined Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), and it is bad news for their M-League rivals.

The 32-year-old experienced forward has not only played for Serie A clubs, including Genoa and Udinese, but had stints at English Premier League side Watford and Championship's Sheffield Wednesday.

Argentina-born Forestieri will pair up with last season's M-League top scorer Bengson da Silva as JDT bid to dominate the domestic league and make inroads in the Asian Champions League (ACL).

"After looking at JDT's long-term football project, I made a decision to join the club.

"I am excited to continue my football journey at this great club," said Forestieri in a video released by JDT yesterday.

Forestieri has had a remarkable career in Europe, having also represented Italy in international youth competitions.

He is JDT's second major signing after national player Syahmi Safari, who was unveiled as a JDT player on Thursday.

Benjamin Mora's side will head to the United Arab Emirates on Jan 25 for their preseason.

JDT will play friendly matches against Slovakia's MSK Zilina, Latvia's Riga FC and Russia's Rodina Moscow and Spartak Moscow in their build-up to the new season.

With their new signings, JDT are the favourites to retain their Super League crown for a ninth straight season.

However, JDT fans hope the club can achieve better results in the ACL.
