JDT seek recovery after being run over by Kawasaki

Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) captain Farizal Marlias hopes his team will bounce back from their 5-0 thrashing by Kawasaki Frontale when they face Guangzhou FC in today's Asian Champions League (ACL) Group I match at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.

The defeat on Sunday against the Japanese club was a huge embarrassment for JDT as they are not used to conceding many goals.

Last season, they only let in nine goals in 22 matches to retain their Super League crown.

The long-serving Farizal hopes the club will beat Guangzhou to brighten their chances of qualifying for the last 16.

The 35-year-old, who shrugged off a nasty head injury just two weeks ago during a Super League match, said he has moved on from the Kawasaki nightmare.

"It was a very bad result. We tried our best (in that match). It is not easy to come back from a five-goal defeat," said Farizal yesterday.

"I am sure the players realise their mistakes. We have two more matches, and we need to get maximum points to qualify for the next round.

"We have a good squad to bounce back. I am confident, and I know how to handle the situation."

Kawasaki lead the group with eight points, followed by JDT (seven points), Ulsan Hyundai (seven) and Guangzhou, who have lost all of their matches.

The Southern Tigers had thrashed Guangzhou 5-0 on April 15, but Farizal warns that the Chinese Super League side could spoil things for them today.

"Tomorrow will be a different game against Guangzhou. They may sit back and play a low block to stop us from scoring.

"We need to be mobile to open up spaces. I hope the fans will come and support us," he added.
