Sultan Ibrahim wants TMJ to lead JDT

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has declared that Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim should continue to be in charge of the Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) football club.

On June 9, JDT owner Tunku Ismail had surprised the football fraternity by announcing he will step back from the day-to-day running of the famous club.

At that time the Johor Crown Prince said he has to focus on other responsibilities and commitments.

In a statement today, Sultan Ibrahim said Tunku Ismail should "continue leading and managing the JDT football team to elevate the sport of football at the national and international levels".

Since Tunku Ismail became the owner of JDT in 2016, he has made them the undisputed No 1 club in Malaysian football, as they won the Super League title consecutively in the past eight years and also the Asian Football Confederation Cup in 2015.

The Southern Tigers set another milestone this year by becoming the first Malaysian team to reach the last 16 of the Asian Champions League.
