'Tired' Malaysia go down 4-0 to Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: While other Southeast Asian countries are making inroads in women's football, Malaysia are still struggling to find their footing.

Malaysia suffered their second straight defeat in the AFF Women's Championship when they lost 4-0 to Thailand in Manila today.

Malaysia, who conceded one goal in the first half, had to reshuffle their line up in the absence of regulars Farishah Errina, Ji Fedalliah Jaimin, Putri Arissa Balqis Abllah and Rosdianah Adeline, who are recovering from injuries.

Thailand scored through Playchompoo Somnuek (24th minute), Pattaranan Aupachai (54th), U-Raiporn Yongkul (73rd) and Nutwadee Pram-Nak (86th).

Jacob Joseph said: "My players were tired after the first half, and Thailand took advantage of the situation to score more goals.

"I made substitutions but things were still not okay.

"It is not easy for the players to play four matches in eight days.

"However, my players gave their 100 per cent."

Malaysia, who have two points and are out of the semi-finals, take on Australia in their final group match on Tuesday.
