KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia beat Thailand 1-0 today to finish fifth in the women's hockey Asian Champions Trophy in Ranchi, India.

Nurmaizatul Hanim Syafi Sheik Fuad scored the winner in the first minute off a penalty corner at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Hockey Stadium.

Malaysia completed the six-nation tournament with three defeats, two wins and one draw. The Speedy Tigresses lost to Japan (3-0), India (5-0) and Asian Games champions China (4-0) but held Asian Games silver medallists South Korea 1-1.

Malaysia, who finished fifth in the Asian Games last month, also beat Thailand 2-0 in the round robin.
