Red Warriors out to frustrate JDT in Malaysia Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Kelantan just want to avoid a thrashing when they travel to Iskandar Puteri tomorrow for the Malaysia Cup quarter-final return leg against former champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

JDT thrashed Kelantan 3-0 in the first leg in Kota Baru on Nov 5 and are expected to breeze past the Red Warriors tomorrow.

Kelantan coach Rezal Zambery Yahya admitted it will be a tall order to overturn the deficit at JDT's fortress.

Furthermore, the Premier League side will be without four regulars.

"However, we still have 90 minutes of football, and I hope we will minimise mistakes and do our best tomorrow. I want them to make JDT struggle for their victory," said Rezal.

"Those unavailable (for various reasons) are Jasmir Mehat, Arip Amiruddin, Ikhwan Yazek and Nurshamil Abd Ghani."

JDT coach Hector Bidoglio will likely rotate his players for the game.

"I have a big squad of quality players, so I will rest some of the regulars.

"The bench players will be given minutes in the game. I hope they can use the chance to prove their quality."

JDT won the Malaysia Cup in 2017 and 2019, while Kelantan last hoisted the trophy in 2012.
