Referee Yaasin in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons

KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) has confirmed that it has received a complaint from KL City over the referee's performance in last weekend's 2-2 Super League draw against Penang in Cheras.

Referee Tuan Mohd Yaasin Tuan Mohd Hanafiah was guilty of making questionable calls throughout the game.

"Our referees' performance committee will look into it after receiving a report from the match assessor," said FAM secretary-general Noor Azman Rahman today.

He also added that the national body was always open to criticism and can be reached via proper channels.

Meanwhile, the FAM-NSC project squad, who will play in the Under-23 MFL Cup this year, signed an RM350,000 kit sponsorship deal with Puma via Active Sports today.

Coached by Noor Zaidi Rohmat, 70 per cent of the squad, comprising National Football Development Programme players, are new faces.

The team won two matches in 2022 and one game in 2021 in the Premier League.

"We want to finish top four in the group stage of the MFL Cup.

"We do not want to be the whipping boys this year. I believe it will be more balanced in the MFL Cup as it is a youth competition," said Noor Zaidi.
