Stuart: Only two Super League teams facing salary issues

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has refuted claims that seven out of the 14 Super League teams are grappling with salary issues.

Instead, MFL confirmed that only two teams are facing debt-related challenges this year.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Stuart Ramalingam urged everyone to refrain from making assumptions and allow the affected clubs to resolve salary arrears internally.

The MFL hopes to maintain the current 14-club structure for the upcoming season, but Stuart clarified that it's not an absolute necessity.

"Recently, Kedah owner Tan Sri Daud Bakar provided an explanation of the situation at his club, and I appreciate his willingness to take responsibility," said Stuart.

"He demonstrated his commitment as an owner by addressing the issues during challenging times.

"Kedah are not a repeat offender, so we are giving them the space to handle the matter internally."

Stuart highlighted MFL's commitment to maintaining the integrity of the league, citing the non-issuance of licenses to Sarawak United and Melaka United last year, which emphasised the seriousness of the First Instance Body.

He stressed that similar measures would be taken this year, reiterating the league's dedication to ensuring that there are 14 clubs next season.

Stuart encouraged players and coaches to use the proper channels to address salary arrears, rather than waiting for three to four months of unpaid wages.

He said social media is not the appropriate platform for resolving such issues, and that the MFL, the FA of Malaysia, the Professional Footballer Association of Malaysia, and the Football Coaches Association of Malaysia are available to take prompt action.
