Football clubs told not to sell their licences

KUALA LUMPUR: M3 League teams who secure national licenses for the 2024/25 Super League season cannot auction them to other clubs vying for a spot in the country's premier football competition.

Malaysia Football League (MFL) CEO Datuk Stuart Ramalingam warned that MFL has the authority to revoke a team's license if it is sold, forcing the club to start anew.

Stuart explained that MFL retains the right to disapprove any takeover bid by a third party that fails to meet the criteria.

"The licensing process is granted through an application submitted by the team. If the club are sold, MFL has the right to revoke the license if it does not approve the takeover.

"For that takeover, we need to conduct due diligence on the party that will be buying the team, including their background and financial resources," said Stuart.

Stuart said the interview process for the four teams applying to play in the Super League will take place on Monday.

"We will conduct interviews with the four teams. We will provide updates after the First Instance Body (FIB) makes a decision," he added.

For the record, MFL reopened applications for special licenses to M3 League teams to fill the void left by Kelantan, which failed to secure a national licence.
