KL City face Terengganu with JDT as their main target

KUALA LUMPUR: KL City hope to meet Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) again in a cup final with the thought of revenge.

But to do so, they must get past Terengganu in the Malaysia Cup semi-final second leg at the KLFA Stadium today.

And the City Boys face the disadvantage of having lost 2-1 in the first leg.

But KL are still hopeful of overcoming the one-goal deficit and meet defending champions JDT (who are expected to reach the final) on Dec 9.

KL City have proved that they can deliver the knockout blow against JDT, having done so with a surprise 2-0 win over the Southern Tigers in the Malaysia Cup final two years ago.

KL City director Khalid Samad said they want to get even with JDT especially after the 2-0 loss to the Super League champions in the FA Cup final three months ago.

"We want to go to the final again on a payback mission after losing to JDT in the FA Cup final where we had to play in Johor (Sultan Ibrahim Stadium)," said Khalid.

"We want to go to the final, we want to beat JDT, we did it in 2021.

Regarding the FA Cup final that they lost, Khalid revealed KL City had lodged a complaint with the Malaysian Football League on the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium being used for the final which came as a great home advantage for JDT.

"The National Stadium wasn't available then but other stadiums were. We weren't happy because the final shouldn't have been played in Johor," said Khalid.

On reports that the KL players were not paid salaries for up to four months, Khalid said the club is dealing with the issue and has reduced it to two months.
