VAR set to debut in the M-League next year

KUALA LUMPUR: The implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the M-League is rapidly gaining traction.

Four VAR sets have arrived at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya and are undergoing testing by Malaysian referees for use in the upcoming season.

Malaysian Football League (MFL) CEO Stuart Ramalingam confirmed the progress.

"We are currently testing the VAR servers and touch screens.

"The VAR units will be transported in special trucks to venues, and we are exploring options to purchase or secure sponsorship for these trucks.

"MFL aims to seek Fifa's approval in February, with the new M-League season scheduled in April.

"In summary, we are in the third stage of VAR implementation in Malaysian football, and we hope to introduce VAR in the M-League next season," said Stuart.

Stuart also affirmed that the VAR unit purchased by Sabah for matches at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu is compatible with MFL's system.
