Colombian Morales is Harimau Malaya's new weapon

KUALA LUMPUR: KL City forward Romel Morales, recently granted a Malaysian passport, is part of Harimau Malaya's 26-member training squad for the Asian Cup Finals in Qatar on Jan 11-Feb 12.

The Colombian and others will report for centralised training on Dec 26.

The 26-year-old versatile attacker is now the country's eighth naturalised player.

Morales's first club in the M-League was the now-defunct PKNS in 2018

later moving to Melaka United in 2020, and eventually signing with KL City in 2021.

Over five seasons with these clubs, he scored 46 goals in 148 appearances.

Morales played a pivotal role in KL City's triumph in the 2021 Malaysia Cup, and the team's runners-up finishes in the 2022 AFC Cup and 2023 FA Cup.

Malaysia, placed in Group E at the Asian Cup, will open their campaign against Jordan at the Al Janoub Stadium on Jan 15, followed by matches against Bahrain five days later and South Korea on Jan 25.
