Garrido looking at getting the ball into China box

KUALA LUMPUR: Though happy that the national Under-23 team beat China 1-0 in a football friendly yesterday, coach Juan Torres Garrido is looking at Malaysia's weaknesses.

Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar scored Malaysia's winner from a header in stoppage time (90+5) in a match played under three degrees Celsius at the Shanghai Jishan Sports Centre Stadium.

Spaniard Garrido is concerned with Malaysia's struggles to reach the opponents' box.

He will need to sort it out before they play the Dragons again on Tuesday.

"When you play against the same team twice, it becomes tough because there's emotion involved," said Garrido.

Team captain Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi said his players have adjusted well to the freezing conditions in China.

"All the players are in high spirits despite the cold weather. We managed to adapt and we're grateful for our first international friendly win," said Mukhairi.
