Serie A strugglers Empoli sack second coach of season

Rome: Serie A strugglers Empoli on Monday sacked coach Aurelio Andreazzoli after four months in the job.

Andreazzoli, 70, was hired last September to replace Paolo Zanetti who was fired after a humiliating defeat 7-0 against Roma.

The Tuscan club have appointed Davide Nicola, 50, on a one-year contract with an option for an additional season.

In a press release, Empoli sent "most sincere thanks to Mr Andreazzoli for the work carried out over the last few months" as well as to his two assistants, who were also fired.

Empoli are 19th in the table with 13 points from 20 games, after losing 2-1 last weekend against relegation rivals Hellas Verona.
