'Asian Cup elimination is heartbreaking'

DOHA: National midfielder Stuart Wilkin admitted that he is heartbroken following Malaysia's second consecutive defeat in as many matches at the Asian Cup on Saturday.

On the back of a 4-0 defeat to Jordan, Harimau Malaya narrowly lost 1-0 to Bahrain in a Group E match at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

"The mood in the dressing room was sombre after the match (against Bahrain). I guess it is part and parcel of football," said Wilkin on Saturday.

"It was heartbreaking when we conceded a stoppage-time goal today (Saturday).

"However, we performed better than against Jordan, indicating that we are learning from each game.

"Now, we will focus on our last group match against South Korea."

Malaysia will face Jurgen Klinsmann's South Korea at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah on Thursday.

Wilkin admitted that taking on world No. 23 South Korea will be tough.

"It is going to be a huge test. We will try to give a better shot against South Korea after learning a lot from the two games," he added.

Winless Malaysia are at the bottom of Group E, with Jordan and South Korea at the top with four points each, while Bahrain is third with three points.
