'Harimau Malaya must be wary of mysterious Oman'

PETALING JAYA: Harimau Malaya will likely be taking a cautious approach against Oman in their World Cup qualifier later this month.

Midfielder Brendan Gan said the team were fully aware of the possible threat from world No. 80, who may use new tactics and gameplay following the appointment of coach Jaroslav Silhavy.

"He will bring new tactics and disrupt whatever system they had previously, that will be the hardest part for us to figure out how they're going to play.

"However, we are going to counteract whatever they are going to do, so at the moment (we are) concentrating on what we can do better.

"We must also need to look back on the Asian Cup, and rectify our mistakes. It will be a long, hard camp this time," he told reporters at the Wisma FAM here on Saturday.

Malaysia, who are at the top of Group D with six points, will play Oman in Muscat on March 21, followed by the return match in Bukit Jalil on March 26.

Silhavy, 62, who coached the Czech Republic from 2018-2023, replaced Croatian Branko Ivankovic after the Asian Cup in Doha.
