Salary woes in the M-League are never-ending sideshow

KUALA LUMPUR: FA of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Amin is set to meet with the Malaysian Football League (MFL) tomorrow to address salary issues plaguing the M-League.

Hamidin expressed concern over the widespread salary problems within the nation's football industry, likening it to an infectious disease that needs containment before it escalates further.

Kedah and KL have been instructed to settle 50 per cent of their total arrears before March 15 and another 50 per cent by the end of the month, which will determine their fate in the upcoming season.

"I have conveyed my concerns to MFL president Datuk Ghani Hassan and CEO Datuk Stuart Ramalingam. During my tenure as Selangor FA secretary, salary issues were rare occurrences, but now they seem to have become pervasive," said Hamidin.

"This is an ongoing problem, and many clubs have been adversely affected. MFL will take decisive action to curb it.

"It's alarming how some clubs seem indifferent to these issues. While actions have been taken and clubs have been penalised, we are concerned that the problem may escalate to the point where no clubs are left."

Hamidin also revealed that new initiatives, including the implementation of Financial Fair Play regulations, will be introduced soon to address and eradicate salary issues in the league.
