Kedah FC told to manage finances wisely

ALOR STAR: Kedah Darul Aman FC has been told to wisely manage its expenditure for the incoming 2024-2025 season, to avoid a repeat of the previous season's salary arrears issues.

Kedah Youth and Sports Committee chairman Muhammad Radhi Mat Din expressed hope that the team's sponsors for the upcoming season would support the club to ensure that players remain focused during the league.

The former player and coach stressed that Kedah FC should not fall into the trap of overspending on star players, which could strain the club's finances.

"Sometimes we get carried away by what other teams are doing. No team wants to start the league and be at the bottom. While it's natural to want to strengthen the team, it's crucial to assess each club's financial capacity," he told reporters at an iftar event yesterday.

Radhi said it was crucial for sponsors to adhere to their financial commitments to ensure smooth club operations throughout the season.

He said when sponsors failed to meet their obligations, teams would be negatively impacted.

"(Ultimately) the club has to turn back to the state government for support. Once we incorporate as a company, they're in charge of managing the club. Like in Kedah, there's a willingness from Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to assist, but the connection has already been severed.

"We hope that our sponsors will keep their promises so that salary issues do not recur," he added.
