FAM to overhaul its youth development structure after Doha flop

KUALA LUMPUR: Following Malaysia's poor performance at the recent Under-23 Asian Cup in Doha, FAM plans to overhaul its youth development structure - from grassroots level up to the Reserve League.

FAM's technical director, Scott O'Donell said: "It's imperative to revamp our competition structure, especially below the Super League, to ensure that our most promising young players are actively engaged in meaningful matches."

Meanwhile O'Donell said the emergence of various "festival-based" competitions like the LaLiga's Youth Tournament is significant in nurturing young talent.

"We must recognise the value of these youth competitions as they provide invaluable opportunities for our budding footballers to hone their skills consistently," added
