FAM and Selangor FC launch 'solidarity' campaigns for Faisal Halim

KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) and Selangor FC have launched "solidarity" campaigns for national winger Faisal Halim following a horrific acid attack on him last Sunday.

The Red Giants launched their "Stand With Faisal Halim. Stop The Violence!" campaign on their official website last night, and called on all football supporters to pray for Faisal's recovery.

Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns on his face, neck, arms and body after he was attacked with acid by an unknown assailant at a shopping centre in Damansara.

"There is no place for violence in the sport we love. Football is a sport that unites us and not one that divides us," read the Selangor FC statement.

"Football players strive and work hard for us. Like any other athlete, Faisal Halim is no exception. He has given his all for us to celebrate the joy together.

"Not only for the club but also at the national level. Most notably, recently, his iconic goal against South Korea in the Asian Cup, brought the loudest cheers in the nation.

"Now, it's our turn to provide strong support to our national hero. Let's stand firmly behind the individual with big dreams in football. This is not just about football but about humanity.

"As a sign of solidarity with Faisal Halim, we at Selangor call on the public to reject violence in any form. There is no place for violence.

"Let's all pray for his well-being and may he recover swiftly."

Faisal, affectionately called "Mickey" by fans, is now in stable condition after undergoing his second surgery at a private hospital in the Klang Valley yesterday evening.

Meanwhile, FAM launched its #StandWithFaisalHalim video tribute and called on fans to continue to pray for Faisal's well-being and recovery.
