Seven golfers for 2018 Asian Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven golfers will likely be picked for next year’s Asian Games in Indonesia.

Six of seven golfers who have been unofficially shortlisted by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) are Chan Tuck Soon, Natasha Andrea Oon, Ashley Lau, Winnie Ng, Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi and AmBank SportExcel International Championship winner Adam Arif Madzri.

MGA general manager Ishak Esa said the performances of the six will be evaluated and selection will be based on funding and cost.

“I can confirm that we are looking at them seriously for the Asian Games,” he said.

Galven Green, Ervin Chang and Danial Durisic, who are based overseas, are also on MGA’s radar for the Asian Games.

“It all depends whether or not their expenses to return will be covered by the association,” Ishak added.

Galven, Ervin and Danial are attached to colleges in the United States.

In August, Galven, Ervin and Danial failed to end Malaysia’s six-year Sea Games gold medal drought when they lost 2-1 to the Philippines in the first round of the team competition.
