Gavin eyes Presidents Cup action

KUALA LUMPUR: National No 1 golfer Gavin Green aims to win a place in the international players’ list for the Presidents’ Cup on Dec 9-15 in Melbourne.

Gavin, who is currently No 121st on the international players’ list, will have to claw his way up as only the top 12 will be selected.

The international players team (without Europe) will be captained by Hall of Famer Ernie Els against the United States who will be led by Tiger Woods.

Gavin, who has secured his European Tour card for a second consecutive season, said: “I have to focus on preparation and to move up (the ranks).”

The 25-year-old said being on the European Tour has made him more disciplined and focused but admits he still needs to work on his short game.

“I think my shots inside the 100s are not as sharp as the European Tour guys. Off the tee, my iron game is good but short (game), I’m not close enough and that’s where the scoring part is,” he said.

Gavin will be back to his daily grind at the Abu Dhabi Championship from Jan 16-19 in the United Arab Emirates after having confirmed his spot for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with his World 52 ranking.
