Gavin's day spoilt by storm warning

Following a "severe storm" warning, golfer Gavin Green couldn't finish his second round at the Kasumigaseki Country Club yesterday, and will have to resume today.

Before the horn blew, the Malaysian was one-under par, having recovered from his three-over-par 74 on Thursday.

The 28-year-old sank four birdies, but his scorecard was marred by two bogeys. Gavin was on the 15th when play was abandoned.

"What a long day! Two rain delays and only completed 14 holes.

"Nevertheless, it was a much-improved day in terms of the swing and ball striking," said Gavin.

"It's slowly coming together, just needed to make a few more putts on the greens. Misjudged a couple of shots from the rough which really caused me those bogeys but on the bright side, it's getting there.

"I won't have much time to rest before a 4am wake-up call (today) but I'll conserve as much energy and play my heart out to finish as good as I can."

Meanwhile world No 5 Xander Schauffele shot 63 to grab the clubhouse lead.

The American fired an eight-under to lead at 11-under, a shot clear of Mexico's Carlos Ortiz (67).

Southeast Asia's best performer was Thai Jazz Janewattananond who tied for seventh with Ireland's Rory McIlroy, Great Britain's Shane Lowry and Paul Casey.

Jazz played par golf for a two-day total of seven-under par 135.
