9th RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational to host 90 young golfers

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) has announced the upcoming 9th RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational Golf Championship (JIGC), set to run from May 14 to 16, 2024.

In partnership with the Foundation for Malaysian Sporting Excellence (SportExcel), the event will feature approximately 90 junior golfers from Malaysia and beyond.

Among the participants are 19 National Junior Players from the MGA Junior Development programme, with six players holding rankings in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). The tournament will also welcome talents from Australia, Britain, India, Indonesia, and Korea.

RSGC golf convenor and organising chairman, Ezani Datuk Abu Bakar, said, "It gives us great pleasure to once again welcome friends from across Malaysia and around the region for another edition of the RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational Golf Championship 2024."

"This is the 9th year of the annual tournament and it is a particularly special occasion for us as it will be our second collaboration with SportExcel, an official body that supports and promotes junior golfing in Malaysia."

The collaboration between RSGC and SportExcel aims to promote junior golfing talent in Malaysia.

Invitations have been extended to SportExcel elite players, state and club champions, and regional top players, targeting junior amateur players (boys and girls 18 years and below) with impressive USGA (United States Golf Association) handicaps.

The championship, transitioning from a junior open to an invitational event, will be held exclusively at the RSGC, highlighting the club's commitment to providing a platform for elite junior players.
