Malaysian women in tough Junior Asia Cup group

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will have to play their A-game in the women's Junior Asia Cup from June 2 to June 11 to qualify for the Junior World Cup. The three top finishers in Kakamigahara, Japan, will earn their Junior World Cup tickets.

The tournament will be held in Chile from Nov 29 to Dec 10.

Malaysia are in Group A with India, South Korea, Taiwan and Uzbekistan.

Japan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Kazakhstan make up Group B.

Malaysia, India and South Korea are expected to fight for the semi-final slots in Group A

Lailin Abu Hassan's team comprise six players with senior team experience and five from Malaysia's Sea Games winning squad.

Lailin said his 20 players had been together since last year.

Malaysia will play Taiwan on June 2, followed by India on June 5, Uzbekistan on June 6, and South Korea on June 8.

"Our target is to beat Taiwan, Uzbekistan and South Korea to qualify for the semi-finals," said Lailin.

Malaysia replaced Japan in last year's Junior World Cup in South Africa, where they finished 11th.

Goalkeepers: Fitrinur Amiera Ramlee and Nur Hazlinda Abidin

Defenders: Sidfielditi Nur Husna, Anith Humairah Baharudin, Khairunnisa AyuniSharuddin, Nurul Fatin Fatiah, Nur Nabila Alia Yussaini and Brenda Jj Andy

Midfielders: Nur Insyirah Effarizal, Kirandeep Kaur Gurdip Singh, Thibatharshini James, Nurdini Batrisyia Ridzuan, Siti Nur Irdina Nor and Aina Zafifah Razali

Forwards: Azmyra Mia Sofea, Siti Nur Atika Shaikh, Nur Shamine Azureen, Dian Nursyakira Najwa, Zati Alyani Zubir and Norshafiqha Ishak.
