Malaysia smash Hong Kong 10-1 in women's JWC

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will fight for fifth position at the women's Junior Asia Cup (JWC) after hammering Hong Kong 10-1 in a classification match in Kakamigahara, Japan, today.

Malaysia scored through Nur Shamine Azureen Badusha (second, 14th and 39th minutes), Dian Nursyakira Najwa Al-Wadqa Nazeri (eighth), Siti Nur Atika Shaikh Maznan (ninth), Norshafiqha Ishak (24th), Siti Nur Irdina Nor (40th), Khairunnisa Ayuni Sharuddin (41st), Azmyra Mia Sofea Azhairy (52nd) and Nur Nabila Alia Yussaini (60th).

Anna Aiello scored the solitary goal off a field attempt for Hong Kong in the 18th minute.

Malaysia will take on Kazakhstan, who edged Taiwan 4-3 in the other classification, in the fifth-place match on Sunday.

"It was a match with many goals. My girls played well. We hope to finish highest in the classification after not qualifying for the semi-finals," said coach Lailin Abu Hassan after the match.

"We hope, by finishing fifth, it would make amends for losing out on a semi-final spot. My charges are ready for the final challenge."

Malaysia failed to reach the semi-finals after losing 3-1 to South Korea in a group match on Thursday.
