KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia went down 3-0 to Japan in the opening match of the women's hockey Asian Champions Trophy in Ranchi, India, yesterday.
The defending champions scored through Rika Ogawa (13rd minute, penalty corner), Mai Toriyama (43rd, field goal) and Shiho Kobayakawa (54th, penalty corner).
Malaysia will face India today in the round robin tournament. The other teams in the fray are Asian Games champions China, South Korea and Thailand.
