India's Odisha beat Malaysia B in Mirnawan Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia B fell like dominoes in the boys' Mirnawan Cup when they were whipped 6-0 by India's Odisha at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Stadium in Pantai on Monday.

This came at the back of a moral boosting 2-1 win for Malaysia A against Australia on Sunday.

Odisha paraded players from four academies while Malaysia B comprise members of the National Hockey Development Programme (NHDP).

The Indian side scored five field goals and another from a penalty corner set piece.

However, their coach David John, who has been coaching in various states in India for the last 13 years, was not happy.

"Malaysia are not too bad, but they made too many mistakes in their semi-circle, and my players tucked in the ball. We earned many penalty corners and could only score one, and that is one of the points that I need to rectify before our next match," said John.

On Tuesday, Malaysia A will face Odisha.

Malaysia B coach Izwan Firdaus said: "My defenders made too many mistakes and allowed Odisha to control the match.

" I need to drill into them that they are playing at home and should show more determination against South Africa (on Tuesday)."
