Rahull's sacrifice pays off, eyes debut for Speedy Tigers

KUALA LUMPUR: Nur Rahull Hrsikesa Thaitchana Muruthi's dedication to his passion for hockey knows no bounds.

The decision to sacrifice his job has now brought him to the forefront, as he finds himself shortlisted in national coach Sarjit Singh's 30-member Speedy Tigers squad for next month's Sultan Azlan Shah (SAS) Cup in Ipoh.

The Nurinsafi Sporting forward's goal is to secure a spot in the final 18-member squad and make his international debut at the SAS Cup.

However, he acknowledges that improving his fitness is crucial in earning his place.

"The one thing I am lacking in is fitness," said Rahull.

"I was working as a property manager in Penang and only trained on weekends to play in the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL). I sacrificed my job for the love of hockey.

"I am working hard to improve my fitness and sharpen my game. A national player must always be at the top of his game to progress."

Now fully committed to his hockey career, Rahull said: "My goal is to play for the national team."

Despite facing challenges in the past, including being unable to focus on training due to studies, Rahull is determined to make the most of this opportunity.

His outstanding performance in the MHL, where he scored 18 goals for Nurinsafi, has earned him recognition and a second national call-up.

Looking ahead, Rahull aims to seize the opportunity presented to him.

"My aim is to feature in the SAS Cup and then move on from there."

Sarjit Singh will finalise the squad of 18 players for the SAS Cup after a friendly against New Zealand in Ipoh on May 1.
