(MMA) M'sia's Marc Marcellinus to compete at inaugural ONE Championship in Shanghai

KUALA LUMUR: Marc Marcellinus is now slated to fight at ONE Championship’s inaugural event in Shanghai on Sept 2 after being taken out from a full fight card in Macau, two weeks ago.

The Malaysian will get his chance to pay homage to his late aunt who lost her battle with cancer two months ago.

Marcellinus’s fight against Vietnam’s Tran Quang Loc, who will be making his professional debut, will be the first of the night in the bantamweight category; while the main event will be between ONE Welterweight world champion Ben Askren and Zebaztian Kadestam.

This will be Askren’s second title shot defence in four months after the former NCAA Division I All-American successfully defended his title against Malaysia’s Agilan Thani after a fight-ending submission dashed Agilan’s hopes of becoming the first Malaysian to win a ONE Championship title and belt.

Askren and Swede Kadestam will face off after fighting at One: Dynasty of Heroes in Singapore last May.

The American will be walking into the ONE cage with an unblemished 16-0 record, while Kadestam will be coming in with a 9-3 record after making his ONE debut back in May.

Other fight cards include Mongolian Naratungalag Jadambaa against Japanese Tetsuya Yamada in the deep featherweight division; bantamweight contenders Miao Li Tao making his debut against compatriot Liu De Li Re Ge Hu; Beijing-based former professional boxer Xu Chun Yan will meet Eh Ya Nut; and muay Thai specialist Sagetdao Petpayathai is set to fight Egyptian Mahmoud Mohamed.
