Ridzuan Puzi wins silver for Msia at World Para Athletics Championships 100m final

KUALA LUMPUR: Sprinter Ridzuan Puzi won a silver medal in the men's T36 100m final at the World Para Athletics Championships in London on Saturday.

Ridzuan, who won the event in the last edition in 2015, clocked a season's best 12.15 seconds as China's Yang Yifei claimed gold in an Asian record of 11.93. Rodrigo Parreira Da Silva of Brazil took bronze in 12.28.

Rio Paralympic gold medallist Ridzuan and Yang had both timed 12.29s in the heats earlier in the day to set up a tantalising showdown in the final.

However, Yang avenged his defeat to Ridzuan in Rio and fell just short of the world record of 11.90s held by Evgenii Shvetsov of Russia.

Ridzuan, born with cerebral palsy, just missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in the 200m earlier in the competition.

Besides Ridzuan's silver, Malaysia had won two gold medals through shot putter Ziyad Zolkefli and long jumper Latif Romly.
