(Formula One) 24-hour surveillance at SIC- police

SEPANG: Police will carry out 24-hour surveillance at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) to ensure security during the Petronas Malaysia Formula One Grand Prix scheduled from Sept 29 to Oct 1.

Sepang district deputy police chief Supt Baharuddin Mat Taib said 682 police personnel would be on duty throughout the period to ensure the safety of the public and thwart any threats from terrorist groups.

“Security will not only be intensified during the race but exercised 24 hours to avoid any form of threat. So far, there has been no security threats,” he told reporters during a briefing of the security aspects for the F1 race in SIC, here today.

Baharuddin said fans can assist police by not parking on the road shoulder because the organisers have designated 100,000 parking lots for the race.

“Vehicles parked indiscriminately will be towed away to the Sepang police headquarters,” he said.

He also urged fans to come early to avoid traffic congestion at the last minute.

Road signs will be set up and traffic police will be on duty to assist traffic flow before, during and after the race, he said.-- BERNAMA
