Impressive start to season by Quartararo

PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team’s (SRT) Fabio Quartararo is eager for more following an impressive start to the MotoGP season.

The 20-year-old, who made the step up to MotoGP this year, was impressive in the opening nine rounds with five front-row starts, two from pole and two podiums to show.

He now holds the record as the youngest-ever polesitter in MotoGP, a record he took from Marc Marquez.

“The first half of the season has been positive. I am happy with the job that we’ve done,” said Quartararo.

“The best race I had was in Assen. I fought with Marquez and Maverick Vinales for the podium.

“Unfortunately, it was a difficult race as I had to manage the pain from my arm surgery. Despite that, I was still able to make it onto the podium. That was pretty special.

“I need to stay calmer on the bike. We need to be more patient during the races, and I also need to try harder to manage the tyres because it’s not something I’ve really done this year.”

Quartararo underwent pump surgery on his right arm to correct compartment syndrome last month before the Catalan GP.

He is eighth in the overall MotoGP standings with 67 points while teammate Franco Morbidelli is 11th on 52.

The second half of the season will resume with the Czech Republic Motorcycle Grand Prix on Aug 3-4.

Malaysia will host the penultimate round of the World Championships at the Sepang Circuit on Nov 1-3.
